Stokes county was formed in 1789 from Surry County. It is located in the north-central section of the state and is bounded by Rockingham, Forsyth, and Surry counties and the state line of Virginia. In 1849, Forsyth was formed from Stokes County.  Deeds are GREAT source for genealogical research due to the many and varied family members that are mentioned.
