Probate Records of South Carolina, Volume #2. The Journal of the Court of Ordinary, 1771-1775.
By: Brent Holcomb, Pub. 1978, Reprinted 2023, 330 pages, Index, ISBN #0-89308-053-5. The author, Brent Holcomb, has abstracted three books that represent a guide to the intestate (and some testate) records of the Colonial and Revolutionary periods of South Carolina. These three volumes cover the entire state, province, or counties not functioning until 1785. This volume #2 is extremely valuable as it contains the Journal of the Court of Ordinary 1771-1775, Abstracts of Letters of Administration for S.C. and Charleston Dist. 1775-1785, Abstracts of Letters of Administration with the Will Annexed Volume K, 1778-1821. This 2nd book of the series contains many heretofore unknown probate records from the Colonial and Revolutionary period. The Ordinary’s Journal contains references to Testate and Intestate state records and some Marriage Licenses. The Letters of Administration are recently discovered intestate records. This volume covers the Wills and Administrations for the Entire State for this period.
