Pike County was created in the 1821 from Henry County, Alabama. It is surrounded by the present day counties of: Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Crenshaw, Dale, and Montgomery counties.  Due to the many counties carved out of Pike County, (Bullock, Barbour, & Crenshaw Counties), this book will be extremely helpful for researchers looking for individuals in this southeastern portion of the state.  These newspaper abstracts were taken from the Independent American, a newspaper published in the town of Troy.
