By: Michael A. Ports, Pub. 2021, 368 pages, Index, soft cover, ISBN #978-1-63914-042-8. Muscogee County was created in 1826 from lands ceded by the Creek Indians. It lies on the western boundary of the state boarding Alabama along the Chattahoochee River. The Superior Courts kept records of divorce, civil and criminal cases, naturalization, military discharges, homesteads, grand juries, registration of land deeds and prisons. Occasionally, superior courts (as well as inferior courts), kept records pertaining to slaves. Depending on the case, both jurisdictions should be checked for information about slaves and their owners.
