Fredericksburg was created in 1727 and is located in the county of Spotsylvania. Due to the city’s importance to trade during the American Revolution, it was severed form Spotsylvania in 1782 and given its own court system. This is the time frame when the marriages within this book begin. Of special note, these marriages cover a greater area than the city’s corporate limits. Many Caroline & Stafford County residents got their marriage bonds in Fredericksburg. Let it be known that Fredericksburg was a unique and special trade center for this area of Virginia. The author has also included tombstone inscriptions from St. George Cemetery 1752-1920.
