The marriage records in this volume have been taken from the marriage bonds now surviving minister’s return of marriages performed, consents of parents or guardians now extant, marriages recorded in the original Douglas Register pertaining to Cumberland County, and other sources considered authentic. Some marriage records by inference taken from wills, deeds, and other records have been included. Notes have been included which seemed to be pertinent or of value.  This volume lists the names of the grooms in alphabetical order, with separate indices for the brides and other names appearing such as surely, witnesses and names appearing in consents. This book contains approximately 2,000 marriages.
