This is an excellent companion to Gregg’s History of the Old Cheraws.  In a charming written narrative, Professor Cook takes the reader on a fascinating journey back into time.  Beginning with the settlement of the land baronies near Georgetown, the “tour” extends down to South Carolina’s adoption of the Federal Constitution.  Stops along the way include the coming of the Scotch Presbyterian, the establishment of the first schools, the Revolutionary activities of General Francis Marion of Swamp Fox fame, and much more.
