Early Obituaries of Williamson County, Tennessee, 1821-1897

Williamson County was formed in 1799 from Davidson County, and until 1804 it extended to the Alabama line. Later counties cut out of this original Williamson County were: Bedford, Lincoln, Marshall, Maury, Rutherford, and Giles. Tennessee did not officially start keeping vital statistics until 1902. This can make finding them difficult. The author has recovered these early obituaries for 1821-1897 from 13 newspapers in the area. These newspapers are: the Weekly Review, the Review and Journal, Williamson County News, the Independent Gazette, the Review Appeal, the Franklin Review, the Maury Democrat, the Western Weekly Review, the Nashville Republican Banner, the Nashville Gazette, the Nashville Union, the Nashville Whig and the Columbia Herland and Mail. Data to be found within: name of deceased, date of death, location of burial, names of family members to include parents, spouse and children, birth date or age, and other tidbits of genealogical information.
